VMH40: Partnering with Barr Printers

Throughout our 40 years of business, we’ve enjoyed supportive partnerships with a number of firms. One of our longest associations has been with Barr Printers – themselves in business for over 40 years – who have helped us with everything from folders to business cards to letterheads. Their expert staff have always been on hand to rise to our printing challenges and help us communicate in a highly professional way. We caught up recently with Barr Printers Sales Director – and ex Scotland rugby international – Kenny Milne, to look back on the partnership.

“I think we’ve worked with VMH for approximately 30 years,” he recalls. “I remember their old logo, at that time, was a grey quill which appeared on all their printed material.

“I can’t recall the date when they changed their logo but the new version had a solid blue to the back of their letterheads which would always cause a problem with the ink drying so, to help with this, VMH were the first client for whom we did print and storage – it really benefitted both us and them.”

Kenny goes on to explain, “It meant we could print the material efficiently, allowing time for the solid ink cover to dry, hence more economical printing in large volumes. Also, once we made this storage available to clients, they would very seldom go elsewhere!

“This proved a very important service which we offered to many of our clients and strengthened our business foundation – so we have a lot to thank VMH for.”

Kenny’s point of contact with VMH is Practice Manager Caroline McCleery, who has been with the firm since 1999.

“Caroline has always been a pleasure to work with,” Kenny adds. “I was introduced to her by Phil Valente, but I’d also played rugby with and against both Ian McCombie and Willie Hunter – the original VMH!”

In general, it’s been a smooth-running relationship – bar (or rather, Barr!) one pungent episode!

“The only problem we’ve ever had was when we used a new supplier for ink,” Kenny explains. “For some reason the ink gave off a terrible smell when it went through the VMH office printers! I don’t think I was very popular with the staff as their offices were filled with a fog of smoke and stank!

“We reprinted all their stock for them, though,” he adds!
