Welcome to the eighth instalment of the VMH, Edinburgh property, ”Get to Know the Team” series. Today we are getting to know Shannon that little bit better…
What is your role at VMH Solicitors?
Receptionist, I am the first point of contact where I answer the phone and greet clients when they come into the office.
How long have you worked at VMH Solicitors?
I started in May 2017.
Tell us a little bit about your family?
Originally from Aberdeen, having moved to Edinburgh in November 2016, my family are all up North. I am very close to my sister and would go as far to say we are twins but born 3 years apart!
Do you have a favourite quote?
‘The future is unwritten’ by Joe Strummer. There is no point in worrying about what the future holds, live life in the moment. Your future is whatever you make it, No one decides your future but you. How do you define success? Being happy with things you have done, what you have and what you have achieved.
What did you want to be when growing up?
I wanted to be a hairdresser when I was really young until I cut my own hair and it didn’t turn out quite the way I had expected! Thereafter, a designer and illustrator. What do you like most about your job? Getting to meet lots of friendly clients and seeing them excited to move into their new property. I love to see the different properties that come onto the market and how they are furnished.
What is the first concert you attended?
Embarrassingly, does Free at the Dee count?! First band would be Keane as my friend was obsessed.
What kinds of hobbies and interests do you have outside of work?
I love design and photography so enjoy being creative.
Where is your favourite place to eat?
Spitaki Greek Taverna in Broughton, the food is delicious and it has a great intimate atmosphere. Casa Amiga on Leith Walk is a lovely café which do amazing egg custard tarts! My aim is to try more restaurants while I live in Edinburgh!
What is your favourite thing to do in the wonderful city of Edinburgh?
Walking around Leith as it makes me feel at home being near the coast and it’s down to earth nature. I like the many cafes and restaurants it has to offer. I really enjoy going to art galleries and craft markets as I love design. Walking up Arthur Seat is also a favourite and holds a special place in my heart.
What is your favourite time of year?
Definitely Winter! I love the snow! I’m still waiting for Edinburgh to have a cold winter.
Do you have a nickname & what is it?
Mack, it’s shortened from my middle name. I was mistakenly called it once and it has just stuck.
Who is your idol?
My partner, he always makes me laugh, supports me in everything I do and is the kindest person you will ever meet.
How would your friends describe you?
Caring, bubbly and silly.
