Moving house. Even the thought of it sends a shiver down your spine. The stress, the worry, the physicality of it all. So with all that going on it’s hard for anyone to remember everything.
Here at VMH we love to help out where we can so, here’s a helpful checklist that you can use to make your life a little easier.
Label as you go
Many people forget to label or write on their moving boxes. This causes an issue at the other end, if you at the very least label them with the room they correspond to then you can sort the boxes with ease into the correct place without having to search through them.
This also gives you a chance to label anything that the movers need to move with caution.
Pack an essentials box
Make sure you pack all the essentials that you know you’re probably going to need on moving day or in the immediate days after. If possible, move this box yourself to ensure that it doesn’t go walk about during the move.
Inform people of your move
The Post Office, the bank, your doctor, kids school etc. These are places that you should notify of your change of address as possible. Sending out change of address ecards is a great way to do this.
No man gets left behind
Check, check and check again. When you ask the kids if they checked their rooms, don’t believe them. Not only will it stop you leaving anything behind, it will settle your mind.
Move your home insurance
Make sure you remember to move your home insurance over to your new address. We would advise doing this before you move so that you are covered from the day you move in.
Arrange child/pet care
The last thing you need during moving is having to take care of the movers, the kids and the dog. Make your life a little easier by arranging someone to take care of any pets and younger children during the move, so that you have one less thing to worry about.
Discuss a change-over time for keys
Arrange a time to give the keys to either the letting agency that is taking over the property or the new owners as well as a time to pick up the keys to your new home.
