Kevin Scores an Anniversary Milestone

What a journey, 28 years in the making, and a time for celebration! Not just Scotland’s recent return to the football World Cup, but our Director Kevin McLuskey marking 28 years since he joined VMH. What better way for him to honour the event than travelling to support the national team in their opening games in Boston in June.

“I’m excited about my trip to to USA,” he said before jetting off, “as I’ve been waiting a long time for the chance to support our national football team at a World Cup.”

So Kevin didn’t make the shorter trip across the channel to cheer on Scotland 28 years ago?

“I got married in the summer of 1998,” he replied. “A trip to France that year would have resulted in a very short marriage!”

This time, Kevin’s trip was planned as soon as the Boston group games were announced.

“Whilst I have been to a few games this was very much a one-off to go for a week-long trip,” he added. “I organised to go with a couple of old university pals but we all travelled independently and were there for different lengths of time.”

“The journey was a direct flight from Edinburgh so pretty straightforward. Bagpipes being played on the plane was memorable with plenty choruses of ‘Super John McGinn!

“The atmosphere was fantastic. Locals were very friendly and generous though most of those we met were in bars and restaurants where we were, of course, spending plenty and tipping healthily!”

Was there a downside to the week? “The worst part of the trip was the football itself!” Kevin admits.

“I saw two pretty uninspiring performances but at least we won the first one! The team need to find a way of performing better at these major finals now we are at least qualifying for them a bit more regularly!”

“I am not sure I would be the man to help with that but no doubt there are aspects of managing a football team similar to managing a legal business!”
